Ernestina Sodi, Sister of Thalía and Mother of Actress Camila Sodi, Passes Away

Ernestina Sodi, a well-regarded Mexican writer and journalist, has passed away after facing severe health complications following two heart attacks, which had kept her in intensive care in Mexico City. A notable figure in the fields of literature and media, Sodi was the sister of popular singer and actress Thalía and the mother of actress Camila Sodi, leaving a meaningful legacy in both realms.

On October 18, it was reported that Thalía's older sister, just 64 years old, suffered her first heart attack and was rushed to a hospital in Mexico City, where she later experienced a second.

The news of her passing was shared hours ago on the official Instagram account of Camila Sodi, daughter of the late writer and journalist.

At this time, no further details on Ernestina Sodi's death have been provided. Camila remains the only family member to have spoken publicly, as her younger sister, Thalía, has not yet addressed her sister’s passing on social media.

Born on July 24, 1960, Ernestina Sodi Miranda was a prominent Mexican journalist and historian. Daughter of Yolanda Miranda Mange and criminologist Ernesto Sodi Pallares, Sodi came from a family of public figures, including her sister, actress Laura Zapata, and singer Thalía Sodi. She was also the mother of actress and singer Camila Sodi and Marina, daughters from her relationship with attorney Fernando González Parra.

Sodi studied Art History at the Instituto de Cultura Superior, specializing in aesthetics and literature. She was also a professor of Modern Literature at Universidad Iberoamericana and a Ph.D. candidate in Modern Literature at the same institution, with a dissertation focused on myth, tragedy, and drama in Richard Wagner's Tristan and Isolde.

In 2011, during her mother’s funeral, Sodi married politician Mauricio Camps, though the marriage ended two years later. This personal event adds to the series of experiences that shaped her life and career.
