Trump Nominates Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee as Ambassador to Israel

 


WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday announced his selection of former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee to serve as U.S. ambassador to Israel.

Known for his strong support of Israel, Huckabee was chosen amid Trump’s commitment to aligning U.S. foreign policy with Israeli interests, especially in the context of Israel’s conflicts with Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon.

“Mike has been a great public servant, governor and faith leader for many years,” Trump said in a statement. “He loves Israel and the Israeli people, and the people of Israel love him just as much. Mike will work tirelessly to bring peace to the Middle East!”

Huckabee has led tour groups on paid visits to Israel for many years, regularly promoting those trips in conservative-leaning news outlets.

David Friedman, who served as Trump's ambassador to Israel during his first term, said he was "thrilled" with Huckabee's selection for the position.
