One Dead, Multiple Injured in Shooting at Alabama’s Tuskegee University

 


A tragic shooting took place early Sunday at Tuskegee University in Alabama, leaving one person dead and several others injured, according to an official university statement. The deceased individual was not a Tuskegee student, although some of those injured were confirmed to be students and are currently receiving medical care at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika and Baptist South Hospital in Montgomery. However, the university has not disclosed the exact number of people wounded or details about their conditions.

The cause of the shooting remains unclear, and authorities have not yet identified a suspect or announced any arrests. The incident occurred during celebrations for the university's 100th homecoming week, which drew large crowds on Saturday night. Videos shared on social media captured people seeking cover amid gunfire in a parking lot near the campus.

Law enforcement secured the area, and the Alabama Bureau of Investigations is leading the investigation. Meanwhile, the university is working to account for students and notify their families, pledging to provide more updates as information becomes available.

This incident follows a series of shootings at homecoming events in recent weeks. A similar event on October 19 at Albany State University in Georgia resulted in one death and several injuries, and on the same day, another shooting at a homecoming gathering in Lexington, Mississippi, left three dead and injured eight others. Earlier, on October 12, a shooting near Tennessee State University in Nashville also resulted in casualties, with one dead and nine others injured.
